Royal St David’s Golf Club runs many competitions through the year. The main
competition days are Tuesdays (Seniors), Wednesdays (ladies and Wednesday
night roll up) and both Saturdays and Sundays (medals or stableford).
The club also hosts various meetings throughout the year, and many of the
principal competitions in these meetings are ‘board competitions’, with
winners’ names displayed in the clubhouse. Royal St David’s has some of the
most distinguished honour boards of any British golf club, and these competitions are described below.
MEN’S BOARD COMPETITIONS
THE ST DAVID’S GOLD CROSS - 72 hole scratch medal competition, played over
one weekend and a WAGR ranking event. Along with the Duncan Putter, one of
the two principal scratch stroke-play club events of Wales.
THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP - 36 holes to be played over 1 day from the black
tees, usually in June
R SEGAR PUGH SALVER - The two best scratch medal scores during the Men’s
Summer (August) Meeting
H H HILTON GOLD MEDAL - The three best scratch scores returned during the
year in any of the Club Medal competitions (excluding the St. David’s Gold Cross,
Club Championship and *Monthly Medals).
ST DAVIDS CUP - Individual Stableford played from the Yellow tees, played over
the St David’s Weekend in March. Presented in 1968 by former Captain Arthur
Williams.
HRH PRINCE OF WALES CHALLENGE CUP - Individual Medal played from the
White tees, played over the St David’s Weekend in March, for a cup presented by
HRH Prince of Wales when Captain of the Club in 1934-35
THE MORE MEMORIAL CUP - Individual Medal played from the White tees,
played during the Men’s Summer (August) Meeting, for a cup presented in
memory of William Henry More, founding Secretary of the Club.
EINION PIERCE SALVERS - Greensomes competition played from the White tees,
played during the Men’s Summer (August) Meeting.
